2014 United Nations E-Government Survey, the flagship publication of Division of Public Administration and Development Management (DPADM), United Nations United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) was launched on 25 June 2014. 

 

United Nations E-Government Survey is published every two years and it is the only global report that assesses the e-government development status of the 193 UN Member States. It serves as a tool for decision-makers to identify their areas of strength and challenges in e-government and to guide e-government policies and strategies.

 

This year's Report is the 7th issue and for the first time, it is noted that all 193 UN Member States have national websites. The Report shows that many countries are expanding electronic participation, utilizing more mobile and social media tools, facilitating usage and making more government data available online. However, challenges remain, such as lack of resources, digital divide and a lack of leadership for e-government.  

 

The rankings are based on the Report's E-Government Development Index (EGDI), which ranks countries by measuring their use of information and communications technologies to deliver public services. EGDI is composed of three most important dimensions of e-government, namely: scope and quality of online services (Online Service Index, OSI), development status of telecommunication infrastructure (Telecommunication Infrastructure Index, TII), and inherent human capital (Human Capital Index, HCI).

 

This year, for three issues in a row, the Republic of Korea again ranks the first in global e-government development due to its continued leadership and focus on e-government innovation. Australia ranks the second and Singapore ranks the third.
