During the event, Mr. Bokyun Shim, Head of UNPOG, delivered a keynote speech on "Reexamining Effective Public Governance for the SDGs and Resilient Recovery from COVID-19" during the Plenary I on Reexamining the State of Public Administration during the 2021 PSPA International Conference on 22 October 2021. The presentation elaborated on a) the emerging challenges and impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and climate crisis on the implementation of SDGs, b) the role of effective public governance in addressing COVID-19, c) leveraging digital transformation in response to COVID-19, and d) promoting effective public governance through capacity development programmes.
Consecutively, another UNPOG staff delivered a presentation on "Digital Data Governance for Data Centric Government" during the Plenary IV on "Refounding: Emerging Trends and Issues on Public Administration and Governance" on 23 October 2021.
The conference was attended by approximately 700 participants from central and local governments, research institutes and universities in the Philippines as well as from other countries. UNPOG’s participation in the conference provided a good opportunity to highlight the importance of effective governance and digital transformation in response to the pandemic and accelerating the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. UNPOG has also taken this occasion to promote the UN DESA/DPIDG’s Curriculum on Governance for the SDGs to a wide audience.
