UN Women Expert Consultation on Women and Technology Data (6 - 8 December 2022, Seoul, Republic of Korea) December 28, 2022

DPIDG/UNPOG participated in the Expert Consultation on Women and Technology Data, which was organized by UN Women Center of Excellence for Gender Equality on 6-8 December 2022 in Seoul, Republic of Korea. There were about 20 experts from UN DESA, UN Women, ILO, FAO, Pulse Lab Jakarta, academia, civil society organizations as well as national statistical offices attended the meeting to share knowledge, research and statistical analysis to better understand the women and technology nexus for the upcoming 67th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW67) and beyond. The Expert Consultation also aimed to develop a framework with building blocks (enablers) on different dimensions with regard to harnessing technologies for gender equality. It was envisaged that the framework could serve as a reference for policy makers to identify gaps and challenges in leveraging technology for women’s empowerment while weighing the risks of using digital technologies. The UNPOG staff delivered a presentation on Gender Data and E-Government: Solutions to Leave No One Behind, with reference to the findings of the UN E-Government Survey 2022.

The Expert Consultation also discussed next steps to develop gender and technology measures, including reviewing the existing data and the need to collect additional data, and communication and advocacy, which would lead to developing a composite women and technology index.
