Welcome Note
Welcome Note

It’s a great pleasure to deliver the inaugural message for the UNPOG Public Governance Quarterly Newsletter.

The principle mission of the United Nations Project Office on Governance (UNPOG), established in 2006 as a project office of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), is to strengthen the capacities of public administration in developing countries in the Asia Pacific region. Since its inception, UNPOG has conducted innovative research and capacity-building activities, and disseminated global and local best practices on participatory, transparent and effective public governance.

Starting from June 2016, in response to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, UNPOG shall focus on strengthening the capacities of public administration to translate the SDGs and other internationally agreed-upon goals into institutional arrangements, strategies and programmes at regional and country levels. Additionally, its geographic coverage will go beyond Asia and the Pacific to include East Africa.

UNPOG endeavors to be the global hub for good governance, a platform where meaningful and productive discussions are made and best practices are disseminated.

Through this newsletter, we aim to keep people around the world informed and updated on UNPOG and public governance for SDG-related news, including upcoming events. I hope you find our quarterly UNPOG newsletter insightful, and I thank you for your interest in the UNPOG. Your participation and interest will be essential to turning our vision into a reality.
