International Forum- “Fund Resilience, Not Disasters” - In the framework of the 2025 International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction in Mexico (21 October 2025, Virtual) October 30, 2025
At the request of the International University for Knowledge and Research (UNICI, for its acronym in Spanish), DPIDG/UNPOG contributed to the panel on “Democratizing Risk Understanding.” The discussion, aligned with one of the six key action areas highlighted in the Global Assessment Report 2025 (GAR 2025), focused on enabling access to risk information through both local knowledge and technological innovation. DPIDG/UNPOG’s presentation, “Leveraging Frontier Technologies for Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience” addressed the responsible use of frontier technologies, including artificial intelligence, and emphasized the importance of data governance, ethics, and inclusion. A key message from GAR 2025 underscored that when artificial intelligence is combined with local knowledge, data becomes meaningful, guiding investment and prioritizing the protection of people in vulnerable situations. The forum aimed to transform evidence into actionable decisions by assessing the real cost of risk, fostering open data, and advancing anticipatory action.
